Jon Wahl - Team Leader-President
Jon has over 35 years of professional experience in the engineering and construction management fields. His involvement includes, base design, procurement, permitting, bidding, economic analysis, project execution and management in fields that include, but are not limited to: major oil drilling, land development, public utilities, environmental compliance and remediation, large scale earth work, subdivision planning, wind energy, and construction of sanitary landfills. As corporate President, Jon is directly responsible for the quality of all deliverables, project progress, timing, budget, and personnel.
Kirk Baker - PE Senior Engineer
Responsible for the technical oversight of project work requiring mechanical expertise. Kirk is very experienced and knowledgeable in the permitting, design and installation of bulk storage tank systems. Coordinates and develops technical specifications, project drawings, and cost estimates. Performs calculations to size equipment and verify functionality of designs. Investigates vendors and contractors for best current practices as they apply to in-house projects, and performs bid evaluations.

Alexander Benyo, MBA - Business Development
Alexander Benyo is a sales and business development specialist who focuses on fostering mutually beneficial relationships with his clients. Fred Brant - PE Senior Engineer - Professional Land Surveyor
Fred has over 25 years of professional experience in the civil, mining and environmental engineering and construction fields. His experience includes stormwater planning, design and NPDES permitting for projects encompassing multiple hundreds of acres, sanitary sewer designs - both municipal and on-lot, PennDOT occupancy permitting, including intersection modification designs for super-load transports, dam and spillway design. Fred has over 15 years of direct experience in the wind energy sector including direct supervision of large scale ALTA surveys, NPDES permitting for same scale projects, and serving as a vital part of the planning and strategy teams for wind project development in several states. Fred has performed all facets of land development and site planning tasks, including boundary, topographic and construction layout surveys as well as site plan preparation, and extensive land development plans.
Rodney Brant - Senior Technician
Rodney has 38 years of experience in the areas of water distribution, sanitary sewer collection systems, water and sewer line construction and inspection. He is a Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Licensed Water Distribution Operator. Rodney’s experience with Somerset Engineering includes inspection of municipal construction projects, both water and sanitary sewer, assistance with permitting these projects, development of project budgets and detailed cost estimates, technical review of equipment submittals, and preparation of project closeout documentation. Rodney provides consultation internally and to clientele with regard to piping and equipment specification, use and proper installation.
Darryl Hunt - Project Engineer
Darryl has over 25 years’ experience in the engineering field, including 9 years as a registered professional engineer. His duties involve surveying, drafting, specifications, design, permitting and inspection in fields that include, but are not limited to: electric generation, land development, public highway, water and wastewater, institutional, and construction/design of residual and sanitary landfills. As Project Engineer, Darryl is responsible for providing quality design, permitting and specification of public and private projects.
Michael Lear - Project Manager
Michael has over 25 years of experience in the areas of engineering and project management. He is involved in the oversight and support of projects from conception to construction completion. Work activities include base design, permitting, estimating, funding applications and compliance, right-of-way procurement, bid document preparation, site inspection, meeting coordination and general liaison between clients, contractors, regulatory and funding agencies.
Tara Miller - Project Coordinator
Tara has over 10 years of experience providing administrative and clerical support to the engineering and scientific consulting group at Somerset Engineering. Tara has an additional 10 years of experience in the banking and finance arena. Her role includes project time management and documentation, processing of accounts receivable and payable, assistance with preparation of proposals, bid documents and general administrative support.
Sabrina Owens – Staff Mechanical Engineer
Sabrina has over 12 years of professional experience in mechanical design. She is a graduate of the Swanson School of Engineering Mechanical and Material Sciences program at the University of Pittsburgh with experience spanning several industries – mining, aerospace, automotive, oil and gas. She is responsible for the technical portion of design-build projects including, but not limited to: design calculations, technical specifications, project drawings, equipment selection, proposal generation, pricing estimates, and securing permits. Her design approach emphasizes a cradle-to-grave mentality in conjunction with complete and accurate documentation to maximize client convenience. Her passion is researching the latest technologies and implementing new equipment to improve process efficiency.
John Philip - Senior Designer
John Philip is a senior designer with over 40 years of experience with site design. Mr. Philip’s experience includes preparation of subdivision plans, land development design, erosion and sedimentation control plans, storm water management plans, preparation of highway occupancy plans, solid waste disposal plans, surface coal mining plans, and municipal water and wastewater designs for various land development and municipal projects. Proficient in CADD design layout and drafting, working in AutoCAD civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Larry Philip - Engineering Designer
Larry has over 30 years of professional experience in the design, drafting and surveying fields. His involvement includes, site design, surveying, permitting and crew management in fields that include, but are not limited to: ALTA/ACSM land title surveys, land development, public utilities, environmental compliance, large scale earth work, subdivision planning, wind energy, and construction of commercial buildings. As CAD and survey crew manager, Larry is directly responsible for insuring the quality of all CAD related deliverables, crew scheduling, developing budgets, and equipment maintenance.
Ray Speicher - Business Development
Ray Speicher is a business development and project management professional that always puts the customer first. As an executive and consultant for over 30 years, Ray has worked with specialty manufacturers, engineers and architects, wholesale distributors and contractors to help them truly understand the needs of their customers and how to improve products, services and communication. Ray is motivated by collaboration and working with managers and teams, as together, they innovate to improve services and develop better ways of communicating with customers to help them reach their goals.
Mark Yuko - Project Manager
Mark has 30 plus years of experience in fabrication, procurement, production scheduling and supervision, and field construction management. His involvement includes, seeking out and securing projects, assisting with design and permitting, bidding, procurement, scheduling, and field management. As a project manager, Mark is responsible for project scheduling, progress, and maintaining budget all while providing an end result of something he has made personal and would call his own.
David Werner - Surveying Crew Chief
Dave has over 30 years of experience as a survey crew chief. Dave is experienced with static and GPS surveying for boundary surveys, topographic surveys and GPS surveys for aerial mapping of large land tracts. Dave has functioned as crew chief for ALTA surveys covering in excess of hundred contiguous properties.
