Jon Wahl - President
Jon has just under 40 years of professional experience in the engineering and construction management fields. His involvement includes, base design, procurement, permitting, bidding, economic analysis, project execution and management in fields that include, but are not limited to: major oil drilling, land development, public utilities, environmental compliance and remediation, large scale earth work, subdivision planning, wind energy, and construction of sanitary landfills. As President, Jon is directly responsible for the quality of all deliverables, project progress, timing, budget, and personnel.
Kirk Baker, PE - Senior Engineer
Kirk is responsible for the technical oversight of project work requiring mechanical expertise. He is very experienced and knowledgeable in the permitting, design and installation of bulk storage tank systems. Part of his role includes coordinating and developing technical specifications, project drawings, and cost estimates while performing calculations to size equipment and verify functionality of designs. He also ensures vendors and contractors follow industry best practices as they apply to in-house projects, including bid evaluations.

Alexander Benyo, MBA - Business Development
Alex is a sales and business development specialist who focuses on fostering mutually beneficial relationships with his clients. He has a wide spectrum of experience in sales, marketing and customer relations. Alex understands that his success, and that of Somerset Engineering, is intertwined with the success of their customers. He values his clients as his partners, providing fresh ideas and custom-tailored solutions to suit the unique needs of each organization. His belief that “Success fosters success” is the compass he uses to focus on the kind of “win-win” strategies that result in positive outcomes and fruitful long term relationships.
Fred Brant, PE - Senior Engineer - Professional Land Surveyor
Fred has over 25 years of professional experience in the civil, mining and environmental engineering and construction fields. His experience includes stormwater planning, design and NPDES permitting for projects encompassing multiple hundreds of acres, sanitary sewer designs - both municipal and on-lot, PennDOT occupancy permitting, including intersection modification designs for super-load transports, dam and spillway design. Fred has over 15 years of direct experience in the wind energy sector including direct supervision of large scale ALTA surveys, NPDES permitting for same scale projects, and serving as a vital part of the planning and strategy teams for wind project development in several states. Fred has performed all facets of land development and site planning tasks, including boundary, topographic and construction layout surveys as well as site plan preparation, and extensive land development plans.

Darryl Hunt - Project Engineer
Darryl has over 25 years’ experience in the engineering field, including 9 years as a registered professional engineer. His duties involve surveying, drafting, specifications, design, permitting and inspection in fields that include, but are not limited to: electric generation, land development, public highway, water and wastewater, institutional, and construction/design of residual and sanitary landfills. As Project Engineer, Darryl is responsible for providing quality design, permitting and specification of public and private projects.
Michael Lear - Project Manager
Michael is involved in the oversight and support of projects from conception to construction completion. Work activities include base design, permitting, estimating, funding applications and compliance, right-of-way procurement, bid document preparation, site inspection, meeting coordination and general liaison between clients, contractors, regulatory and funding agencies.
Tara Miller - Project Coordinator
Tara has over 10 years of experience providing administrative and clerical support to the engineering and scientific consulting group at Somerset Engineering. Her role includes: project time management and documentation, processing of accounts receivable and payable, assistance with preparation of proposals, bid documents and general administrative support.
John Philip - Senior Designer
John is our senior designer with experience in preparation of subdivision plans, land development design, erosion and sedimentation control plans, storm water management plans, preparation of highway occupancy plans, solid waste disposal plans, surface coal mining plans, and municipal/wastewater designs. Proficient in CADD design layout and drafting, working in AutoCAD civil 3D, Microsoft Word and Excel.
Larry Philip - Engineering Designer
Larry's role as a designer includes: site design, surveying, permitting and crew management in fields that include, but are not limited to: ALTA/ACSM land title surveys, land development, public utilities, environmental compliance, large scale earth work, subdivision planning, wind energy, and construction of commercial buildings. As CAD and survey crew manager, Larry insures the quality of all CAD related deliverables, crew scheduling, developing budgets, and equipment maintenance.
Mark Yuko - Project Manager
Mark has 30 plus years of experience in fabrication, procurement, production scheduling and supervision, and field construction management. His involvement includes, seeking out and securing projects, assisting with design and permitting, bidding, procurement, scheduling, and field management. As a project manager, Mark is responsible for project scheduling, progress, and maintaining budget all while providing an end result that he has made personal and would call his own.
